This expression of gratitude for the loving care of God, learned through the teachings of Christ Jesus, and through the explicit help in understanding the Scriptures given me by Mary Baker Eddy, is long overdue.

When I was a preschool child, a dear and unselfish neighbor invited me to attend a Christian Science Sunday School. At that tender time in my experience it was the place I loved to be. I have been ever grateful that my parents kindly allowed me to attend, although it was several years before one of them became a member of The Mother Church.

The truths I learned in Sunday School bore much fruit. I have often thought of my first demonstration of healing in Christian Science. I had been seriously ill with Spanish influenza. The doctors, while prescribing numerous medicines, did not give my parents much hope for my recovery. I recall promising my mother that if she would throw away the medicines I would get well, so simple was my trust in God. There must have been great assurance in that statement, for my mother did as I asked, and the complete recovery was a rapid one.
