The Peace of God Ends Hypertension

Christian Science destroys hypertension by removing the underlying mental cause through spiritual means. It shows us how, by staying thought quietly and confidently on God, all-inclusive divine Love, we gain a genuine tranquillity, a deep inner stillness, that annihilates hypertension once and for all. In a hymn to God, the book of Isaiah states, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."^{Isa. 26:3;}

Although medication may seem to give temporary relief, it leaves the basic mental cause untouched. The excessive tension reasserts itself as the effect of the drug wears off, and the treatment must be repeated indefinitely in order to control the symptoms and forestall what is feared to be their disastrous results.

Medical theory connects hypertension with high blood pressure, and hence with various forms of heart and arterial disease. An article in a popular magazine discusses this at length and in detail, but fails utterly to touch on the one sure way to freedom from this destructive scourge. Drugs, exercise, diet, regular checkups, are mentioned as possible ways of controlling hypertension and its effects, but the direct, positive influence of spiritually enriched thought is ignored.
