"O Mother Love!"

"As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Isa. 66:13; In these simple words the prophet Isaiah enunciates one of the most appealing of God's promises to men—a promise later to be reiterated by Christ Jesus when he spoke of the Comforter coming to abide with men forever.

With authority Jesus spoke of God as the Father of man. "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven," Matt. 23:9; he insisted. And he supported this recognition by the countless healing proofs he gave of the Father's care and provision for His universal family.

Christian Science emphasizes the nature of God as Father-Mother. Like the great Way-shower, Mrs. Eddy drew her concept of God from a deeply inspirational study and understanding of the Scriptures. Commenting on the Biblical book of Revelation, she writes in Science and Health, "As Elias presented the idea of the fatherhood of God, which Jesus afterwards manifested, so the Revelator completed this figure with woman, typifying the spiritual idea of God's motherhood."
