I am a lifelong Christian Scientist

I am a lifelong Christian Scientist. I had the blessings of regular Sunday School attendance until I was twenty, and the guidance of a faithful parent to nurture my spiritual understanding until I was ready to demonstrate Christian Science for myself.

Christian Science teaches that spiritual man is always the perfect, beloved child of God, and in proportion as I accepted this view of myself, I was freed from many of the character classifications given teen-agers.

Before our first child was born, I was told by a doctor that there did not appear to be sufficient space for her to be born normally, and that an operation might be necessary. I tearfully told this to the Christian Science practitioner, who was supporting me through prayer. Her reply was instant and vehement: "That is nonsense. Love makes 'radiant room'!" She was referring to a verse from Mrs. Eddy's Communion Hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 298):
