Universal Brotherhood

As a black man, I was educated to believe that I possessed limited abilities. I believed that white people were superior to me; therefore I bitterly disliked them.

Soon after taking up the study of Christian Science I came to see that what I had been believing about myself and others was based on a misconception of man as a mortal being. I was able to see that I didn't lack anything, that all good was mine to enjoy and express. What I needed was a correct and growing understanding of my true selfhood as God's very expression, possessing unlimited good.

I also came to see that everyone, everywhere, is God's own child, perfect and complete. I remember one time, while I was pondering these spiritual truths, this statement burst forth in my though: all of God's children dwell together in unity, harmony, and brotherly love. I was able to see right through the false belief that man's nature is material, something to like or dislike.
