Forty–five years ago, when I was a very young student of Christian Science, with two young children of my own, a friend passed on with scarlet fever, leaving a premature baby of whom the doctor said it would be better if he had died, as he was deformed and would always be a cripple. Not one of the relatives would have the baby.
I was full of the joy of being able to demonstrate God's healing power in Christian Science and was sure that the baby could be healed, so I offered to have him on the condition that he have Christian Science treatment. The doctor would not let him be moved for a month, thinking he might be a carrier of the scarlet fever.
When the baby was born, he weighed just over five pounds; when I had him weighed, he was only three pounds and three ouncess. The nurse had been afraid to give him much food, since he did not act naturally. As soon as I had him, I gave him his normal food, and almost at once he had a natural movement. I had no more trouble from that cause.
