One evening in 1968 I took a nap before dinner, and on arising I became aware of a pain in my stomach. It continued during dinner, but immediately after the meal I departed for a nearby city to attend a regular evening law class because I felt that was the proper place for me to be. As I drove, I repeated passages from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, denying the reality of matter. I also sang a favorite hymn by Mrs. Eddy (Poems, p. 14):
Shepherd, show me how to go
O'er the hillside steep,
How to gather, how to sow,—
How to feed Thy sheep;
I will listen for Thy voice,
Lest my footsteps stray;
I will follow and rejoice
All the rugged way.
