In the month of September, 1935, a relative spoke to me of Christian Science. At that time I was deeply discouraged because of various ailments that had caused me much suffering for years. I can say that I was in "the valley of the shadow of death" (Ps. 23:4), as I had no desire to live. Acute articular rheumatism made it impossible for me to carry out my household tasks. For some years, too, I had been attacked by severe colitis, for which I was on a rigorous diet, but the condition condition to become more accentuated.

For fifteen years I had put up with a very stubborn case of eczema, which covered my whole face. Because it was so visible, it was the ailment about which I was most concerned. During this time I was attended by the best medical specialists, who endeavored to find relief for my trouble by offering every kind of treatment for the case, but without success. Finally I was told that the eczema was incurable. I felt so depressed by all this that I could not believe that there might be anything that could pull me out of the condition. However, at my relative's insistence, I went with my husband and my children one Wednesday to listen to a testimony meeting. The testimonies I heard were so wonderful that I was greatly encouraged.

That evening I was introduced to a Christian Science practitioner. The wonderful things she told me caused a rebirth of the faith I had lost. She helped me become acquainted with God, who never afflicts His child, and to understand that evil does not exist in the real creation of an all-wise Father but is only mortal mind's false picture. From that moment I set about, with sincere faith, to study the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I subscribed to all the Christian Science literature in Spanish, trying to understand and put into practice its teachings. With the very effective help of the practitioner, all the illness and disease symptoms began to disappear in a very short time, making a new person of me. I was full of a newfound hope and happiness.
