The protection one has in a Christian Science family is truly a...
The protection one has in a Christian Science family is truly a blessing. One childhood experience I recall was that of waking up in the middle of the night screaming because of an earache. My fear disappeared as my mother sat on the side of my bed silently and audibly declaring God's tender love and care for me. I do not remember now exactly what was said, but I recall that when I awoke in the morning I knew that it was God who had healed me. The healing was permanent.
As a young woman I seemed to be quite susceptible to colds and the flu. Every winter I missed some period of school or work. During these years I drifted away from Christian Science and turned to it only when help was needed. I knew that in this Science help was always available. When the problem was not met through my mother's understanding, a Christian Science practitioner was called. It was not until we experienced serious illness in the family and the loss of two loved ones within one and a half years that I awakened to what I had been missing. When I realized I had to take my own stand for Truth, many beliefs disappeared, including the tendency to take colds and have the flu. Several years later I realized that considerable time had elapsed without my suffering from either of these problems, and that I had been healed.
I am especially grateful for having had the opportunity of nurses training at the Christian Science Benevolent Association. The training period is truly a time of growth and very rewarding work. Office work had become so monotonous that I felt as though I were a cog in a wheel and was not really helping my fellowmen. After I had been in training awhile, I realized how much more rewarding it is to know and see the results of the healing work. When we stand firmly for Truth as set forth in our two textbooks, the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we find that nothing is impossible to God, as Christ Jesus taught.
