First Waking Thoughts
The alarm clock sounds. You wake up. What do you think?
The thoughts we entertain first thing in the morning can make a great deal of difference to the rest of our day. If our waking thoughts are spiritual, full of love for God and joyous over His law of harmony, the events that follow will reflect these qualities. One whose consciousness is illumined by the understanding of the all-power of divine Principle can experience only a day of unfolding good.
What we humanly think controls what we humanly experience. Thoughts are the substance of our mortal bodies and of the events in our human lives. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "A material body only expresses a material and mortal mind. A mortal man possesses this body, and he makes it harmonious or discordant according to the images of thought impressed upon it." Science and Health, p. 208; Consequently, it is very important that the thoughts we hold in consciousness should be always healthy and good, so that our bodies and experience may continually be the models of excellence we would like them to be.
