I made my first trip to Paris, France, when I was in my early teens. And so many of the French women were smoking cigarettes, with especially long cigarette holders. Thinking that was the smart thing to do, I bought a very long cigarette holder and a package of cigarettes. The first one or two cigarettes nearly choked me, but I persisted and finally ended up quite a smoker.

Later, when I had become interested in Christian Science, I seemed to go through a small siege of migraine. And one day I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked him to treat me for the headache. He very kindly said he would be happy to, and gave me some very fine quotations of Mrs. Eddy's to think about, which brought out man's spiritual nature as a child of God. Forty-five minutes later the headache had vanished. So I telephoned the practitioner to thank him.

He was very grateful, and just before saying good-bye, I said, "Someday I wish you would help me with my smoking habit."
