When I was introduced to Christian Science, the first things that impressed me were the simplicity and practicality of its teachings and the great expectancy of good its students expressed. I soon recognized that this was not just optimism but that good was expected in every situation because, since God is good and God is the only creator, all that He creates must be good. It is just that simple, and from that basis I was able to prove more and more each day what I was learning about God and man.

There have been many times when our family has had to prove that Christian Science will meet our every need, and the healings that have meant the most to me have come about through the very simplest expression of Truth. For instance, when our daughter was about three years old, she was healed of an ear infection when she saw clearly the truth of two statements: "God is love" (I John 4:8) and "God is everywhere." In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 473), "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power."

At another time our young son had been planning a weekend trip to the home of his best friend. He stopped at home after school to pick up his luggage and told me he felt so ill that he wasn't sure he should go. The friend's parents were waiting in the car, so a decision had to be made immediately. His main concern seemed to be that his friend had made so many plans for the weekend and he would be disappointed. A simple statement from Science and Health came to me and I told him that "joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy" (p. 304). We agreed to cling to this statement, and he then felt it was right to go.
