"And he stretched it forth"

When Christ Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, "Stretch forth thine hand," Matt. 12:13; his command carried with it the very power and propulsion of the divine will. And his command was obeyed, for it is recorded, "And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other."

During a very frightening experience the writer was led to recall the incident of the man with the withered hand. As she attempted a high step up into a bus at a vacation resort some distance from her home, the long pull evidently put such a strain on the muscles at the back of her right knee that what appeared to be a rupture became very noticeable. As she sat down, almost overwhelmed with pain, fear tried to tell her that she would never be able to step off the bus when she reached her destination at the end of the line.

However, she knew she had some ten to fifteen minutes to pray as she had learned in Christian Science. Soon her thought was held fast to the story of Christ Jesus in the synagogue speaking to the man with the withered hand. She heard again, in thought, that command, "Stretch forth thine hand." She knew that she too could be obedient to the import of that command, that she could use her knee normally.
