My mother became interested in Christian Science many years...
My mother became interested in Christian Science many years ago when she and her sister, who was living with us at that time, went to see a Christian Science practitioner and began to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. My aunt passed on. However, my mother continued to attend services regularly, and my brother and I were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School.
My grandmother was taking care of us at the time because my mother was regularly employed. Soon I began to manifest the same symptoms that Grandmother remembered my aunt had had, and she became alarmed about me. The problem became so severe that I had to remain home from school, but my dear Sunday School teacher came to see me and explained the truth of man as God's perfect image and likeness and showed me how to study and help myself in Christian Science. She made me see the importance of asking myself, "What am I thinking?" This alerted me to watch my thoughts about myself as well as about others.
I gave a great deal of prayerful attention to the definition of God in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 587): "God. The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." I endeavored earnestly to understand my heavenly Parent aright and to express only Godlike qualities as His child. In a comparatively short time all symptoms of coughing and distress had vanished, and the condition that appeared to be consumption was healed permanently.
