A College Student Writes

Christian Science on the Freeway

I commute some distance to college. One important aspect of my day is my drive on the freeway. This means coming in contact with masses of people in a highly impersonal way.

Although the contact is impersonal, it is easy to attach petty, unthoughtful characteristics to other drivers. It is also easy to become frustrated with a tedious drive, counting the off-ramps as they are passed.

But what a waste of time! While driving, we have a good opportunity to see each individual governed by Principle, God. Instead of letting irritation spoil our peace, we can let love pour forth from our thoughts—the love and consideration Christ Jesus taught—and we can look for the thoughtful gestures of our fellow motorists.
