Don't Be Afraid to Get Your Feet Wet!

When the children of Israel had been in the wilderness forty years and were nearing the end of their journey to the Promised Land, Joshua told the people that God was with them and that they would see this fact proved.

To reach the Promised Land, they had to "pass over Jordan." Josh. 3:14; They were to be preceded across the river by the priests, who were to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord. Joshua declared categorically that as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests were wet in the river, Jordan would divide for them to cross over—the twelve tribes of Israel following. Evidently no one doubted Joshua's word. And it happened just as he had said.

The priests were not told to wait at the riverbank until the waters began to separate but to go forward into the water. This Biblical account has deep meaning and inspiration for us today. Faced with a physical or moral problem, a decision to make, or a demand to meet, haven't we often doubted God's guidance and control, wanted to know before we got our feet wet how the steps that were right for us to take would turn out?
