Which Way Out?

A man who once had been lost in a cave related how his fears were suddenly erased when he saw ahead of him a small patch of daylight. It is easy to picture this man hastening gladly toward the light and freedom. It would, indeed, be difficult to imagine that he would turn from the way out to recultivate his fears and cling to the darkness.

This ridiculous alternative is nevertheless the one poor mortals too often choose when presented with a spiritual solution to their difficulties. Unlike the man in the cave, who knew that light meant freedom from darkness, mankind may hesitate in a choice between good and evil because they do not know that good and evil are as opposite as light and darkness.

"In him [God] was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."John 1:4, 5; The Bible makes it clear that God, good, is Light, a constant, infinite radiance of Love and Truth, which includes no darkness and is neither assisted nor understood by evil and ignorance. Erroneous conclusions do not help mortals to understand Truth, God, but Truth does them to know that error is unreal. Resentment and revenge do not comprehend or understand love, dishonesty does not promote honesty, strength does not come from weakness, freedom does not spring from limitation. All good comes from God. It is the light of Mind that removes dream shadows of fear, sin, sickness, and death.
