When I was told Christian Science healed, I was very skeptical. I thought maybe God might heal certain people who led a saintly life or understood Him through a power unknown to me. I had seen two members of my family healed through Christian Science, but I still didn't understand it or think healing was possible for me.

I was in my late twenties and had exhausted myself running from doctor to doctor. I was still looking for an answer after a two-week stay in the hospital for what the doctor called an ulcerated colon. He was treating this with various medicines, including shots and tranquilizers three times a day. After I had had enough of this and was no better, I decided that maybe Christian Science could work for me and I would try it. I really had no place else to turn. I hungrily read all the healings in the Sentinels I found and read over and over again the statement at the bottom of the first page of the healings. The statement says that the healings have been carefully verified and are on file with their respective verifications at The Christian Science Publishing Society.

I called a Christian Science practitioner and was told to read Psalms 91 and 103. I remember reading, "But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him" (Ps. 103:17). I thought I do not know how to fear God, only to love Him. I was filled with a feeling I will never be able to explain in a human way; it only can be called great inspiration. I can remember saying, "Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!" I cried tears of joy after this and knew with all my heart that I had found God.
