I was brought up in a Christian home and was always greatly interested in religious questions. Even as a small boy I reacted forcefully to many points in the Bible and asked the teacher of religion to explain how the many contradictions should be understood. In my own opinion I came to the conclusion that there was much misunderstanding of the Scriptures.
Later in life I once discussed religious questions with my wife, and in the course of the conversation I said that until then we had not investigated Christian Science. My wife then said that it would be easy to find out what Christian Science stood for, as a lady who was vacationing in the neighborhood was a student of Christian Science.
We decided to visit her and had a very interesting conversation with her. We received some Christian Science literature, among other periodicals The Christian Science Journal, and later we borrowed Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy from the Christian Science Reading Room in Oslo.
