Christian Science has been my only help for more than fifty...
Christian Science has been my only help for more than fifty years. When I first read the chapter entitled "Prayer" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I was convinced that I had found the truth. My first experience of the efficacy of Christian Science was the healing of inflammation of the eyes. I was staying with my sister's family. She had requested Christian Science treatment for her small son, who had inflammation of the lungs. Then I, too, asked the same Christian Science practitioner for treatment. My eyes were healed the next day. Also, the boy was well again after two days.
One evening, when I came home after going for a walk, my feet hurt; they were swollen and inflamed. I retired, and opened the textbook, Science and Health, to the place where Mrs. Eddy says (p. 393), "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." I prayed along this line until I was free from fear and pain. Then I went to sleep, and the next day my feet were healed.
One time I was suddenly stricken with a severe earache. I prayed as well as I knew how for two days and two nights, but without evident success. On the third day I had a fever and could not get up. Then I asked a practitioner to come to me and give me treatment. She came immediately, and we read from the Bible and from Science and Health. Finally, she read, with emphasis, the passage (ibid., p. 228): "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God." When the practitioner had gone, I stood up. I was completely well. This healing made a deep impression on those around me.
