The Obstetrical Case

In her Miscellaneous Writings Mary Baker Eddy says, "Until time matures human growth, marriage and progeny will continue unprohibited in Christian Science." Mis., p. 286;

Since this is true, prospective parents who are Christian Scientists should know how to work prayerfully during the mother's obstetrical experience and thus benefit by the advantages that Christian Science provides. In the first place, the child should be welcomed with joy and affection. The parents should realize at once that life is not in matter and that the true, spiritual identity of the child coexists with God, Spirit, the one Life and source of existence. Since Spirit alone is the creator, and since Spirit never began, its expression has existed forever. Only to human sense does life begin.

As creator, God gives identity to His children, and each identity, or self, is distinct, outlined by Spirit as eternally divine Mind's idea. When the distinctness of mother and child as they exist in Science is understood, this will cancel any possible danger in their association with each other. The mother will not feel burdened by the child but will be free and joyous.
