Preserve Your Marriage
When a man and a woman marry each other, they generally look forward to a happy lifelong union. More than mere expectation is needed, however. To be durable and harmonious, the relationship must be built on a sound foundation.
Materiality cannot provide a firm foundation to the marriage relationship, since discord, imperfection, and limitation are inherent in matter and material thinking. According to Christian Science, Spirit is the only true substance and consciousness, for Spirit is God, the Principle of all that really exists. Matter is an erroneous sense of substance and being. How can anything durable be built on error?
The marriage relationship must be founded on spiritual values and aspirations mutually shared by husband and wife, instead of on materially oriented motives and interests. "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." Ps. 127:1;
