I had the privilege of being raised in a Christian Science home, where it was natural to turn to God in every need. I will always be grateful to my parents for their humble, unselfed living of the religion they loved. In this loving atmosphere I grew up with a feeling of closeness to God that I cannot describe.

I would like to relate a healing I experienced nearly six years ago. A recurring toothache impelled me to visit a dentist. In the course of his examination he took X rays and showed me, to my horror, that I had thirty-two cavities! My first reaction was one of surprise and shock. Almost immediately, however, I recognized this as an opportunity—indeed, a necessity—to prove God's allness and power over any material condition. I thanked the dentist for taking care of the one tooth that he had filled, and I left, making no further appointments.

My family and I immediately began prayerful work in Christian Science to understand that man is not material, but spiritual, and that Spirit, God, could not possibly decay or die. One statement that was particularly helpful was, "Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 423). I knew that, because I was the continuous reflection of the one perfect God, my own perfection could not be interrupted by inharmony for a single moment.
