COMPASSION
There is
that yearns to wallow in the grief
of others
and calls it sympathy,
recounting woe, enlarging
hardship
till sorrowing and "comforter" alike
are mired in deepest bog of pity.
And there is
that adds no smothering pity
to human trials,
refusing truth to sorrow,
cause to grief.
God's radiance declares
there is no moment when happiness can falter.
The way ahead is clear,
companioned
by Love's surety.
This is compassion's gift
