Sex and the Christian Scientist

Where sex is concerned, many of us live under the shadow of a fear morality, guiding our conduct by a set of negative values erected out of a partial understanding of the Mosaic Decalogue. If we turn to Christian Science for moral guidance, we turn from "Thou shalt not" to the warmly alive "Thou shalt" of true love.

Now, true love is not free love. It is more fascinating, invigorating, and satisfying than that. Moreover, without roots in true love, romantic or marital affection is short-lived. The stimulus of true love lies in this truth from the chapter entitled "Marriage" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "The beautiful in character is also the good, welding indissolubly the links of affection." Science and Health, p. 60;

These words imply much more than even the highest human affection. The marginal heading nearby reads, "Permanent affection," and who can want less than permanent affection!
