I grew up in Christian Science with the comforting assurance that I could be delivered from all problems, injury, and disease through understanding prayer to God.

In my teens I began to grasp more clearly the truth of my spiritual identity and relationship to God as His perfect spiritual idea. In a Christian Science Sunday School during these years it was very satisfying to find answers to the questions, Who am I? What are the really worthwhile goals in life?

When I entered college, it was a blessing to participate in the Christian Science college organization on campus. I had a great desire to attend the 1965 Biennial College Meeting in Boston but did not have the funds for such a trip. Seeing no human solution, I trusted the desire to God. I held to the thought, "All things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28). Shortly after this our organization received a contribution to be used for financial aid to the students attending the Biennial.
