That Christian Science is a practical religion has been proven in our home for many years. Our reliance on its teachings has brought physical healings, as well as deep, satisfying comfort, particularly when loved ones have passed on.

One healing about which I will tell occurred just prior to our leaving on a planned vacation trip. On this particular day I was seized quite suddenly with serve pain in my right side and abdomen. The condition seemed to grow worse, despite my efforts to claim my perfection as God's image and likeness. I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School from childhood and had become a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, so I was positive I wanted to rely on God alone for healing. It did not occur to me to request a medical diagnosis or opinion. However, the indications were that the difficulty was an acute case of appendicitis.

Self–pity because of the bodily suffering, as well as an extreme sense of fear, almost overwhelmed me. After struggling all afternoon I asked for prayerful help from a Christian Science practitioner, who kindly came to our home and remained until the healing came. She pointed out to me many wonderful statements of Truth from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which we analyzed, affirmed, and reaffirmed. My thought was turned to the fact that "there is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all–power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God" (p. 228).
