Are You Harvesting Tares?

Are you harvesting tares and storing them in your mental storehouse? Each individual and each generation is confronted with tares. They may appear in different forms, but their source is always the same—the one devil, or evil. In the parable of the tares sown in the wheat field Christ Jesus' explanation to his disciples of the source of these damaging weeds is simple and direct, "The enemy that sowed them is the devil."Matt. 13:39;

There are seeds of contention in our present society. Often one generation looks upon another with impatience and disillusionment. In my own experience I found this period of rebellion and inquiry a time of searching filled with disappointments. I constantly looked at the human situation—human people and human solutions. It was difficult for me to hear spiritual truths quoted without practical proofs being given. Once I started picking people apart, I found it easy to be shocked at their inconsistencies.

At the same time I had no thought that my attitude was not in accord with Christian Science. In fact, I looked upon myself as some sort of crusader for uncovering error! However, I found I was being merely a mouthpiece for error, and so I endeavored to eliminate these critical thoughts. But for years I was puzzled to find devoted fellow church members expressing thoughts that seemed to me narrow and bigoted. Here was an inconsistency I could not understand.
