Don't Be Spellbound!
Ancient myths and legends often tell about people cast under a spell. This supposed evil influence rendered its victims incapable of free thinking and acting until such time as they were released by a loving word or a brave and unselfish act.
The theme of the spellbound is also frequently found in time-honored children's stories. Even today the tale of Sleeping Beauty raised from her slumbers by a kiss has lost little of its fascination.
Although we may pride ourselves that we do not believe in the spells and wicked fairies of fiction, are we so sure that we are not spellbound in other ways? Are we ever transfixed by the television long after our chosen program has finished? Have we been held by a book or a play we know to be contrary to our highest ideals, or perhaps been unconsciously influenced by medical theories and practices that sap our faith in the power of God, Spirit, to heal our sickness as well as our sin? What about various phases of sin and enslavement to bad habits?
