This statement in Article VIII, Section 24, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, entitled "Testimonials," has always been a reminder to me of the importance of expressing gratitude to God for the healing power of Christian Science: "'Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's' (St. Paul). Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." I have felt that healings are not complete until testimony is given, acknowledging God as the healing influence.

Christian Science was presented to me in 1930, but I did not readily accept it because of a reluctance to accept Mrs. Eddy along with the teachings. Later on, my fiancée and I were married, and I gradually began to accept the teachings of Christian Science. I attended church services and lectures, and our two boys were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. These were enjoyable experiences. Statements about God and the healing works of Christ Jesus as outlined in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy were particularly helpful in my study of Christian Science, but there always seemed to be a reluctance to accept Mrs. Eddy along with these teachings.

About fifteen years ago the desire to seek church membership became very strong, but the false appetites of social drinking and smoking had to be overcome. The desire to drink just disappeared, but the smoking habit of many years continued. I had become interested in reading Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait (1950 Edition) by Lyman P. Powell, as well as in reading Mrs. Eddy's prose works other than Science and Health, which I previously had avoided reading.
