Poor Richard Club

From an address by Robert G. Dunlop President, Sun Oil Company before the Poor Richard Club Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I have a closing comment on one additional point that I feel is closely related to our ability to achieve meaningful progress in human relationships. This point relates to the moral and spiritual posture of our society. We appear to be cutting loose from our Judeo-Christian concepts, with nothing else to tie up to. In some circles, it seems unfashionable to speak of God. ... I was considerably startled recently to hear the present day referred to as the "post-Christian era."

Personally, I cannot believe that faith in God in this nation is of so little depth. I suggest that if we really reflect on the matter we would hardly choose to live in a world without God—or have our children grow up and live in such a world. Further, I fear that in such a world there would be little hope of achieving the higher level of humanity that Mr. Franklin pleaded for back in 1780—and which should be our primary objective for the future.
