I will always be grateful to the Christian Science friend who, when I asked how she prayed, gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and recommended that I read the chapter on Prayer. I did read the chapter and then put the book on a shelf, where it reposed for a year until I was driven by chronic ill health to begin the study of this beautiful religion.

I was hospitalized for tests, and had taken a copy of Science and Health with me. During this period of two weeks I started to read and ponder the truths. I was healed of a painful condition. No drugs were administered.

When I was released from the hospital, my husband made an appointment with a Christian Science practitioner for me. During this visit the practitioner explained that God is ever-present Life, Truth, and Love. She asked me to ponder this statement from Science and Health (p. 184): "Truth, Life, and Love are the only legitimate and eternal demands on man, and they are spiritual lawgivers, enforcing obedience through divine statutes." That afternoon I was healed of a long-standing internal disorder and a thyroid condition. I went home and threw away the medicine, and to this day I have relied on God for my every need.
