Dullness Is Not Good
Dullness is not good. And goodness is never dull. Virtue and bleakness do not naturally grow together. "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you," wrote John, "that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." I John 1:5; God being inescapable, so is His splendor.
There is no splendor in dullness; there's no God, Truth, in it. It is a fake. Brightness expresses the reality, the normality, of divine Life.
Drab-mindedness, devoid of laughter and chivalry, is ignorance of the true, spiritual universe and its power, beauty, adventure, grace, and goodness. To creep miserably through the gleams of this glory would be like watching the grandstand floor instead of the game or teaching school without noticing the children.
