God Is Always Present

When I was a youngster, I spent my summer vacations on a farm. In the farmhouse there was a room called the parlor, which was used only for funerals, weddings, and the visits of the minister. I approached the parlor and turned the doorknob with a feeling of great reverence, because this room was reserved for God's use.

I was told that God was always watching me and recording everything that I did. Strong emphasis was placed on the thought that the bad things were especially noted, and that this record would be used to pass judgment on me. It was impressed upon me that the deity residing in the parlor was not to be disturbed, so I always tiptoed past that door. I often wondered how the deity shut up in that room could judge all the other boys in the world, and I came to believe that somehow God was many persons residing in many places.

Something like this material concept of God is held by many, because a corporeal sense of God is unreliable and limited, it can bring no feeling of security.
