Christian Science Comforts Mourners

People who find themselves bereft of a dearly loved relative or friend sometimes feel that they are unprepared for the experience. They are in deep anguish at the prospect of losing years of happy human companionship. But they can obtain freedom from such anguish through the comfort of Christian Science.

This religion is truly compassionate. It does not ignore grief; it heals it. This it does by changing the mourner's concept of existence from the material to the spiritual. It explains scientifically, that is, truthfully, the teachings of Christ Jesus that blot out personal sorrow. Of his mission to his followers, he said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."  John 10:10; Of the Christianity he founded, Mary Baker Eddy says, "Life, not death, was and is the very centre of its faith."  Miscellaneous Writings, p. 346;

To heal grief with its sense of separation, one must grow into an understanding of life that is apart from fleshly personality and from death that claims to be one's destiny. One must accept the teaching of Jesus that the fatherhood of God, Spirit, Life, makes man spiritual, and whatever is spiritual is deathless—immortal.
