More than forty years ago I was given up by doctors after having had one major operation and being told it was necessary to have another if I wanted to live. The doctor told my husband to send me to live in the country in an open tent, that I was suffering from pernicious anemia in its last stages and was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I went to live in the country with my two small boys. I was afraid to live, and I was afraid of death. It was then that I decided to try Christian Science.

When I went back to my home in Chicago, I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist. As I listened to the testimonies given, I realized that those people who spoke had something I needed. I went from the meeting to a Christian Science Reading Room and borrowed the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
