Twenty-five years ago, while on a business trip, I attended a Christian Science lecture as a stranger in a small community. My main interest was an intellectual curiosity aroused by the conflict between the adverse thoughts regarding Christian Science which I had heard expressed and the demonstration of Christian Science by business associates in their daily contacts with me. The time had come when I needed to find out for myself.
The day following the lecture I purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Upon reading the first chapter on Prayer, and having no previous thought of physical healing, I threw out my ample supply of medicines and was free of any desire for them or any fear of a recurring need for them. For several years I had been on a restricted, medically-prescribed diet and also had taken medicine at mealtime. Fear was eliminated, and I found myself free to eat normally.
This healing was followed in a few months by freedom from the constant wearing of glasses. I found I could not read the Lesson-Sermon daily with my glasses but could read it without them. This freedom came as I increasingly realized and accepted my spiritual identity.
