"Man's extremity is God's opportunity"

"Man's extremity is God's opportunity." This is certainly true, as we have been able to prove by overcoming, through prayer in Christian Science, a desperate physical condition, which, according to medical belief was without hope. Our little daughter, given up by the physicians, recovered her health.

I had gotten away from this Science for some time, when one of our daughters was seized with a serious illness diagnosed as bronchial pneumonia, anemia, and leukemia. Her condition was so serious that there was no hope of saving her. At this moment the doctors discontinued medication. But the teachings of Christian Science are not lost, and during those terrible moments I understood that only God could save her. I turned confidently to His infinite love.

I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, who began treatment with complete dedication, encouraging us daily with the truths taught by Jesus and, thanks to Mary Baker Eddy, made applicable to our experience today. When it was stated that the child would not live through the night, I turned again to the practitioner who was helping us, in order to learn more of the truth of being. I recalled the passage concerning the raising of Jairus' daughter and was able to repeat to my wife who was weeping disconsolately, "Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth" (Luke 8:52).

Divine Love met our need. On the following day the little girl came out of the coma and, to everyone's amazement, asked for something to eat. She was healed. God had given her back to us.

A month later, at the insistence of my wife who at that time was still not well acquainted with Christian Science and so had doubts, our daughter was examined with X rays and tests. Her condition was found to be sound in every way, and not a trace of the fearful symptoms remained. I indeed express my profound gratitude to God for Mrs. Eddy and for the practitioner who helped us so greatly during these moments of trial.
