The words in this issue art related to the Lesson-Sermon in the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read in Christian Science churches on March 23, 1969.

The Hebrew phrase thus translated means, more strictly, "their favorites," the reference clearly being to the images or idols favored by the Babylonians, in whose country Isaiah and his countrymen were living at this time during their period of exile, the idols of which it might well be said, they "shall not profit."

He . . . taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengthened for himself among the trees of the forest (Isa. 44:14)
