Power to Become God's Sons

John said of the Christ, the divine idea that Jesus exemplified, "As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." ^{John 1:12:}

Here is the man Christ Jesus revealed, the Godlike man of sublime accomplishment. Here is the man we can all become. Christian Science declares that this is the man we already are, but whose perfection seems hidden by materialistic beliefs about him.

Is perfect manhood to be attained through genetic engineering, or is it to be demonstrated as the eternal truth of spiritual being? Are mortals to control the evolution of mankind? Are they to determine the character and abilities of men by means of genetic changes? Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Spiritual evolution alone is worthy of the exercise of divine power." ^{Science and Health, p. 135;}
