You Have to Keep Right at It
From time to time a very efficient maid has helped me in my home. We get along fine, but there was a period when, from a few random remarks, it was obvious that my interest in Christian Science was an enigma to her.
Then one morning when, as usual, she saw me reading the Bible Lesson published in the Christian Science Quarterly, she had to ask, "What is it all about?" A good church worker, she was familiar with the Bible; but as for the textbook, Science and Health, and its author, Mrs. Eddy, what of them?
Here was my opportunity. I was only too happy to take time out. First, I showed her the Quarterly. I explained how the Lesson-Sermons were set up, how they were made up of passages from the Bible and their explanatory correlatives from the textbook. She asked about Mrs. Eddy, and we talked about her spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures: how it came to her through divine inspiration and how it makes the Bible more applicable and practical in everyday life.
