For many years before learning of this beautiful religion, Christian Science, I spent much time in doctors' offices and hospitals or in traveling in the vague hope that perhaps I would find health. Instead I grew worse. It seemed that for some reason God had not answered my prayers.

About seventeen years ago, however, a very kind Christian Science practitioner, learning that I had been confined to bed for several months, loaned me a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. So fearful and mesmerized had I become by material medicine that for some time I understood little I read. But God does not take us just part way. One day my thought was illumined with the true significance of Christ Jesus' words from the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 6:24): "Ye cannot serve God and mammon." I knew it was God alone I wished to serve. So I threw out all drugs and medicine and called the practitioner. "If it's not too late, will you please help me?" I asked. It was a real joy to hear her confident reply in the affirmative.

Now Mrs. Eddy's works were illumined for me. As I gained a glimpse of man's spiritual selfhood, I was healed of anemia, digestive difficulties, and throat infections. These afflictions gradually disappeared from my experience. I was well and able to lead a very active life. I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and have enjoyed serving on various committees, teaching in the Sunday School, working as a member of the executive board and then as secretary-treasurer of our church.
