How does one begin to express gratitude for the great blessing of having had Christian Science all one's life! During childhood there were many healings, including that of a skin eruption that covered almost all my body with the exception of my face. There were several weeks when I was confined to bed and suffered great discomfort. A Christian Science practitioner and a Christian Science nurse were of inestimable comfort and support to us at that time, while we all earnestly endeavored to purify thought and realize the unblemished and peaceful nature of man as the image and likeness of God.

One evening my mother was reassuringly voicing statement' of Truth to me. Suddenly there was a strange sensation in my hands, which had had to be carefully bandaged each morning for several weeks. Mother was quick to discern the healing, and on removing the bandages, she found that a wonderful change had taken place since she had dressed them that morning. The hands were dry and free from the eruption. The mesmerism of fear and distress had been broken, and progress was constant from that moment until the entire condition disappeared and I was free.

All through my life Christian Science has been my only physician, meeting my needs in countless ways. A healing that occurred about fifteen years ago was evidence of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health,p.266), "Friends will betray and enemies will slander, until the lesson is sufficient to exalt you; for 'man's extremity is God's opportunity.' " At that time I was serving in public office in my home city at a period when municipal affairs were very turbulent. It became necessary for me to take an unpopular stand and to maintain it in the face of heated and sometimes vitriolic attacks. The misunderstanding, pressure, and hatred seemed too great for me, and I became seriously ill. The condition, though never diagnosed, was so critical that I was taken by ambulance to a Christian Science nursing home.
