The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read
in Christian Science churches on November 9, 1969.

Him that hath called us to glory and virtue (II Pet. 1:3)

Most of the earliest manuscripts of the New Testament suggest "by (or to) his own glory and virtue" instead of the phrase "to glory and virtue." On the basis of this evidence, The Twentieth Century New Testament has, "He who called us by a glorious manifestation of his goodness"; and Moffatt, "Called us to his own glory and excellence."
