The greatest blessing to come into my life was my introduction to Christian Science by a friend some thirty years ago. It is with a sincere desire to help someone in need that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science.

When living in a small college town in New England, I was elected chief of the local fire department. It was my custom when leaving the town to notify the authorities where I would be. One day while visiting in a nearby town, I received word that the large wooden structure housing the local supermarket was on fire. I returned to our town immediately to find that the entire structure was a mass of flames. I immediately issued instructions to call in the fire departments of the two neighboring towns and turned my thought to God to realize His presence to guide and direct my actions.

We were led to concentrate on containing the fire by playing our hose lines from one side to another. Finally, when the fire broke through the last wall, we held it with a wall of water, all the while wetting down a gasoline station across the street and an adjoining two-story wooden structure. A gas tank blew up, and ammunition in the store exploded, but no one was hurt.
