It has been my privilege to have had Christian Science in the home since I was a small child. Christian Science was always the physician in times of sickness, and many healings were experienced. One of my early healings was that of a sprained ankle. I was visiting relatives who were not Christian Scientists. I was able to be alone in my room to pray and study the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Within an hour I was healed.

As a young woman while away at camp, I experienced a healing of injury to one arm. Only one other person, a Christian Scientist, knew of the injury. I was helped into a cabin, where I lay down. I vigorously declared "the scientific statement of being," which ends with the words (Science and Health, p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." I was quickly relieved of suffering, although the arm appeared useless. In a few minutes, at the dining hall of the camp, I was asked to accompany the singing by playing the piano. I asked God for guidance and sat down at the piano. By lifting one hand with the other hand and placing the hand on the keyboard, I found that I was able to move the arm in a sidewise motion, thus making it possible for me to play. The complete healing took about two weeks.

During my study at music school I was faced with an extreme case of stage fright minutes before an appearance as violin soloist with a symphony orchestra. I prayed earnestly to God and was able to perform, but it was not a happy experience. I knew that through the application of my understanding of Christian Science I could conquer this fear, which was not sent from God and therefore was no part of God's child. Between public performances I searched, with the help of the Concordances, the Bible, and all the writings of Mrs. Eddy, for the specific truths which would bring light to my eager thought. I studied in this way for a year. What was happening was that I was gaining an understanding of my heavenly Father and of man, His image.
