RADIO PROGRAM NO. 393 - How Expansive Is Your Love?

[The speaker is Jack Krieger. The questioner is Robert McKinnon.]

Questioner: More and more people today are concerned about reaching out in some way to help those less fortunate than themselves and bring them a greater measure of justice and dignity. But many of us have to admit that we're cliquish when it comes to being concerned about others. We have a limited range of interests and commitments.
Speaker: Yes, it's easy to love those who agree with us, who think as we do, who like us the way we are. Jesus talked about this very point, and he said (Matt. 5:46), "If ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?" He went on to say (verse 47), "If ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others?"

Really loving our neighbor requires us to expand our range of love and interest to see that good is not limited. This viewpoint is based on a higher sense of love, not on mere personal attachment. It's based on God, divine Love, who shuts no one out of His love.
