Have You Considered the Lilies?

True progress is not a matter of time and mere human effort but of spiritual unfoldment. It is the effect of understanding the law of God, or the action of one universal Principle. It evidences the orderly unfolding of spiritual ideas forever included in divine Mind, or God. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Christian Science presents unfoldment, not accretion; it manifests no material growth from molecule to mind, but an impartation of the divine Mind to man and the universe."  Science and Health, p. 68

Have you thought of progress in your own individual experience as depending wholly on human effort or personal struggle to advance toward some goal? Or have you considered the lilies? Christ Jesus said to his disciples, "Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."  Matt. 6:28,29

How do the lilies grow? They do not struggle to add their leaves and blossoms. They do not strive to acquire beauty and color from outside. "They toil not"! They simply unfold. They respond to the mandate of Mind. This effortless, tireless unfoldment is not derived from any power of their own. What but the animating divine Principle of the universe, Life itself, develops the seed, unfolds the leaves, and brings forth the blossoms?
