AGE OF DISCOVERY
Marvelous and symbolic the voyage
into outer space!
Praise for the awakening of the human race!
And for the proliferating indication
of that divine motivation
which left indelible record
of launching power
implicit in the Word.
Wonderful age of discovery! Wonderful age
for the continuing journey. The open page
reveals explanation
of how ship, without hesitation,
was immediately at the land,
and disciples treading sand
of their destination.
There was no launching gear,
no measured count
down for ascent to the mount,
for summit meeting and conversation
on that peak of revelation—
mount of transfiguration.
How many light-years
needed to reach dull ears?
To rouse them to the burning
message on the road to Emmaus? To those
he walked with when—suddenly close—
he arrived, unexpected;
not rocket-projected
but without delay,
from Jerusalem, threescore furlongs away.
What an age for rebirth,
for discovering new heaven, new earth!
