"Now are we the sons of God" (I John 3:2)

"Now are we the sons of God" (I John 3:2). These words, which are read at the close of the Sunday services in Churches of Christ, Scientist, brought about one of my first healings in Christian Science.

I began attending a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of twelve, having previously been to Sunday Schools of various other denominations. For some time I was a regular attendant of the Sunday School, but it was not until I became friendly with a fellow pupil in my class and went to her home that I realized Christian Science could be used in our daily lives.

When I became a member of The Christian Science Monitor Youth Forum, I began to attend Wednesday testimony meetings and Sunday evening services. One evening at the close of the service, as I heard from the desk the words "Now are we the sons of God," I realized a healing had taken place. My father had not returned after the Second World War, and on a few occasions I had been tempted to feel the lack of a father, despite my mother's loving endeavors to be both father and mother to us. I realized in church that evening that as sons of God our heavenly Father is ever present and always caring for us, and I felt deeply grateful to know this.
